Technologies Developed With NASA’s Mars Rover & Deep Space Programs
Shadow Works engineers have developed a one of a kind textile. Leveraging the experience and knowledge gained from working on the Mars Rover and Deep Space programs, SHADOW WORKS’ SWX™, SWXTech™, and SWXPro™ provide a line of multifunctional materials and lightweight exoskeleton composites.
What makes SWXTech™, SWX™, and SWXPro™ textiles unique is our approach to using commercially known fibers and materials commonly found in other applications, using them in unconventional combinations, constructions, and composites.

SPACE AGE TECHNOLOGY FOR OPERATORS
SWX™ is a multifunctional protective textile for garments and accessories made from high strength fibers offering abrasion, laceration, penetration & flame resistance utilizing a multi-layered technique:
-
SWX™ combines a flame-resistant knitted outer layer, containing modacrylic fibers coupled with a penetration resistant knitted inner layer made from HNA filaments.
-
SWX™ is constructed using a double-knit modified interlock construction, a process by which the two strands of yarn are knitted on one pair of needles.
-
The double-knit interlock creates a fabric that has a tight ribbed appearance on both sides. It has excellent dimensional stability with no seam finishes preventing it from unraveling.
-
SWX™, like all double knitted fabrics, is firm, stout, has low stretch and remains very resilient, making it an ideal candidate when designing a durable textile.
